Why acupuncture?

It works…

Acupuncture has been used to successfully treat millions of people over more than 2,500 years. As an effective form of traditional medical treatment, it has evolved into a complete holistic health care system helping many to not only feel better, but stay better for longer.

Acupuncture is recognised for the treatment of many western medical diseases, disorders and symptoms and conditions by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as an effective form of treatment. Some of these include pain, infertility, allergies, depression/anxiety, migraines, digestive issues, arthritis, fibromyalgia and many more… Please see the page on What can be treated’ for a comprehensive list.

It’s safe and relatively painless…

Provided acupuncture is performed by someone suitably qualified with the required nationally recognised 4-year bachelor degree level training in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is a very safe method of treatment. Side effects are rare, are usually minor and can include redness and or soreness at the site of treatment. Not too dissimilar to a mosquito bite.

Fine sterile disposable single-use needles are used to avoid any risk of infection. Acupuncture needles are smaller in size than an average hypodermic needle and they are very flexible. They don’t hurt in the way that hypodermic needles do, however, a slight sensation may be experienced as the acupuncture needle is inserted.

It not only treats pain and disease but helps in prevention…

Many treatments and medications whilst sometimes effective, usually and for the most part, only treat the symptoms. Acupuncture has the focus to restore the body’s innate healing responses such as reducing pain and inflammation along with various hormonal and immune responses to enable the body to heal itself. After a course of acupuncture, in many cases, the likelihood of recurrence or severity of symptoms can be greatly reduced and thus the causes of disease and dysfunction are treated.

It’s affordable and can save you money in the long term…

Many conventional medical therapies, treatments, surgeries and medications can be expensive. Not only in upfront costs but in time away from work as well as rehabilitative costs. Acupuncture is affordable and effective and it may help you avoid further medical expenses and complications down the road when it is used as a primary treatment plan or a supporting therapy. Acupuncturists can also help you make individually specific dietary and lifestyle changes and prevent future illness.
